Memorial Day weekend is always such a fun time, and this year certainly didn't disappoint. After a week of rain, doom + gloom the weather is FINALLY coming around. It was into the 90s almost everyday this weekend and lots of sunshine and humidity. I've learned to not ever complain about the heat in the summer because the death of winter is so unbearable that all I ever want in February is a day of 100 degrees and 98% humidity. No joke, I'd take that over winter anytime.
Anyway, last week after the race I was just getting my training done while enjoying the ease of it all and being able to train right after school. As much as I love coaching, I really enjoy having my afternoons to myself. Though, there comes a point where I don't know what to do with myself and all my free time!
Friday was a rest day and I spent my time being incredibly lazy and under productive. Typical. Saturday I went out on a ride in the morning with one of my lacrosse players and it was fun! I hope she enjoyed it too. I laid back a bit on the pace and actually stayed in my prescribed Z-2 HR (something I rarely do for the bike, and HARDLY ever for the run, oops!). She kept apologizing for 'slowing me down', but the truth is I'm obviously no Lance Armstrong (read last race report for evidence of above statement). It was nice to have the company and chat with her about her experiences doing these bike tours over the summer and giving her little tidbits of advice.
The rest of the day I went shopping and waited for my bf to finish up at his track meet so we could relish in the hot weather and enjoy the long weekend. On Sunday we had a sweat-tastic run in the morning followed by some golf and a night on the town.
Seriously, I can sweat with the best of them
It was about 90+ degrees on Monday and since my town pool opens on MDW I decided that I'd beg my old boss to let me swim there. The water was seriously PERFECT and minus some minor annoyances with swimmers who don't know how to share lap lanes, it was a wonderful swim. I love swimming outside. Also got my second burn for the season, why don't I ever learn? After that my beau and I headed to Princeton so we could run some trails for an easy recovery run (which wasn't that easy on the HR, oops!), and then get some Twist. Sunday was the sweatiest run of 2011, until we ran on Monday. Whoa. I had to walk around the borough of Princeton sans-shirt for a while because I was dripping so much sweat.
Today should be another hot one and I've got intervals on the bike. I'll likely be holing myself up in Mercer County Park while I get it done then battling traffic on my way home. It is what it is, at least I'll get outside! It's a four-day school week, followed by a full week (with a half day on June 10th for senior prom) then I'll be doing another impromptu sprint race on Sunday the 12th, then it's finals week. Holy crap, I've got a lot of work to do.
PS. Don't forget that National Run day is on Wednesday June 1. To any local readers, I'll be leading a trail run with the Lululemon crew on Wednesday at 6:30pm. We'll be meeting at Mountain Lakes for a 30-ish minute run. Ginny, come on out!!
