Bring on the heat

Unfortunately Memorial Day weekend had to end, but it didn't take the heat with it. We've had some pretty scorching temperatures around here lately, but it doesn't end there! We're looking at 96 tomorrow (Wednesday) and 99 on Thursday! Yipe! I love it.
I'm wishing & hoping for no storms on Saturday!

I never used to mind riding in the heat last year, but this year it seems like a different story. Maybe I'm just not used to it yet, but the 'wind' coming up from the asphalt on the ridiculously hot days last week was just suffocating. I felt like I was riding in Hawaii. And though I've never been, I could imagine that's what it would be like (x100).

I've learned a few things about the heat though. Whenever it comes around I start having some majorly craptastic sleeping habits, my schedule gets even more busy than I thought possible, and all I want to eat is watermelon and smoothies.

Last weekend I had a brutal solo brick workout. I kicked my own butt pretty well and was sluggish all day long. It probably also didn't help that I only ate a Larabar during the ride and only had a smoothie after I finished (400 cal) then took a nap. Sunday morning my boyfriend joined me for part of my 30 minute run to warm him up for a 5 mile race he did (which worked because he PRd by over 2 minutes!). I'm proud to say that I actually stayed in my Z-2 HR for my run and didn't feel too beat up about it. Usually I get pissed at myself for being so 'slow' in Z-2 so I speed up and end up running Z-3 like an idiot. Sunday it was nice to go slow and really let my body recover.

After his race we were supposed to go to Manayuk for the Philly Bike Race, but we wimped out because we were tired and wanted to just relax. Enter nap #2 of the weekend.

The rest of the week is going to be busy because life never seems to slow down. Tomorrow is going to be hot, but I'm heading out on my bike and enjoying every minute of the heat. I may be begging my bf again if I can come over to swim in his pool. I'll bribe him with dinner. Thursday is a rest day because I'm racing again on Saturday. A small simple race, but it'll be fun to see if I've got any speed in me yet. Thursday night I'll be heading into Lambertville to my new favorite Middle Eastern restaurant (Marhaba) with a co-worker because she's moving to Cambridge, England at the end of the month. Friday is a half-day schedule because of senior prom which is good because I've got a quickie workout to do, then I'm heading into Princeton for some new Lululemon gear, then down the road to my sisters 8th grade graduation. I'll likely have to leave there a little early to chaperone the senior prom. I'm hoping I get enough sleep on Thursday night for the race Saturday because I'll be in LATE on Friday evening!

Saturday is a sprint tri in Port Republic, NJ then maybe some berry picking before heading to Philadelphia for some Indian cuisine and a night on the town. Or just a night in eating a vegan cookie from Whole Foods for dessert. What can I say? The bf and I live on the edge. Sunday is an easy recovery spin on the bike then I'm having another dinner out and the craziness begins again for the last week of school.

I still CANNOT believe I've only got 8 more days of school left in my first year. I made it! Now I hope I make it through the next two days of heat without having to scrape my body off of the asphalt.
