Blustery Day

Is it just me, or has this happened to other people when they run on super windy days?

Obviously I did my track workout this morning (at an ungodly hour, however it's always nice to see there are other crazies out there! ahem wwpjavajoggers) and I certainly didn't start in the woods behind the track.  Although, if I wasn't able to break into the school (I was able to, and did) I had contemplated running back into those woods to go to the bathroom.  Maybe my Garmin was just reading my mind.

Anyway, I'm going to make this quick and speedy, the opposite of how my running ability is compared to last year.  This morning I spent the entire track workout just trying to get it done/over with/out of the way.  I had internal conversation with myself about how incredibly burned out I am and how I just want a break from triathlon and running.  How did this happen?  I'm not going to get crazy into it now, but I'll come back to it later.  Let's just say that my internal dialogue was not pretty.

The past two weeks have just been running and more running with some swim + easy spin thrown in.  My legs feel awful.  I finally gave them a little whirlpool love at school after my second run today and they felt instantly better.  At least for now.  My mind?  Obviously not so fresh.

Oh, I raced the other weekend.  I did this race last year and had a grand time and couldn't wait to come back and do it this year.  It was a perfect beach day and I had a wonderful time running with a coworker (who is doing her first IM in Arizona) and her two friends.  I didn't go faster than I did last year, but I wasn't bummed because I was keeping my HR totally in check and having fun conversing with the ladies.  My official time and distance is off because I ran back a couple times to keep running with Colleen and Lisa which tacked on another 1/4 mile to the 18.  2:57:45 for a pace of 9:43.  All in all it was a great day.  I got to see my Grandparents after the race and chat with them before 'recovering' in the perfect ocean water and heading home.  For any locals, the LBI 18 miler is a GREAT fall race and perfect for marathon training.

Love the beach
Totally soaked..and totally need to work on my arms..yuck
I might not be able to win a race or PR, but I sure can hold my tan

School has been crazy as usual.  It's now rare for me to be home for the night before 7pm.  It's a lot to be there for so long and doing so much work, but I'm enjoying it and happy to be doing it.  It's homecoming this week at school which makes it all the better because I don't even have to put any thought into what I'll be wearing.  Monday = prep day, Tuesday = 'superfan' day, Wednesday = pajama day, Thursday = neon day, and Friday = class colors day (I teach mostly freshmen, so jeans and a white tee it is!).  It's been a nice break from the normal routine and I enjoy showing my school spirit, especially since this is the school I attended when I was a young buck.

I looked at a calendar the other day and realized that it's now less than a month until swim season starts (November 14th).  I don't know what I'm going to do.  I'm already stressing about the sleep, early practices, late meets, and cold, bitter weather.  BUT, there is a silver lining!  I get to go to Arizona with the team in December for a training trip!  Warm weather, here I come!

On that note, it's time to do more work.  That's right, I left school so I could come home and work more.  The piles and piles of papers and tests to grade never ends!

Having company at the track makes it so much more pleasant on those dark, dark mornings! Be careful if you do duck in the woods... we've seen a fox cross the track and infield a couple of mornings. Fox + the hawk I've seen there probably mean lots of critters nearby:)

Its normal to fight those battles in your head from time to time. Sometimes a step back from "normal" training will do it. Sometimes just re-focusing on WHY your doing this helps too. if you wanna talk, you know how to reach me.

Keep at it kiddo!
